What Shall I Do Today?

Too many leaves in the paisley garden

More leaves for next year’s squash bed

I think, perhaps, I’ll rake today. The weather has been unseasonably warm. However, the garden fairy developed an aversion to playing outside as soon as playing in water was discouraged. She’s also been sick for the last week. Today, my older daughter will be home from school early. They can play together, while I rake and dig up dahlia tubers and mulch with leaf mold, if I get that far. This is really my last opportunity before cold weather comes. Fortunately, I don’t have to haul all of these leaves to the bottom of the hill in back, again. This year, I have scoped out strategic locations for future new planting sites, meant to minimize leaf hauling.
Oh, I am so glad you don’t have to haul all those leaves. Think of how they will enrich the soil in your new planting areas and dream of what will soon be growing there.
I am sure that is what my garden looks like. I am hoping the good weather holds out for another weekend, so I can get my raking done as well.
Future leaf mold!
Great for your garden after some composting. Don’t work too hard.
Yes, I followed the clues, and suspect that a rake might be involved somehow. And then, if you’re lucky, a good long soak for those tired muscles.
I recognize those leaves. I was raking and raking once, when I had leaves like that. A snake jumped up and rattled at me. I squealed and ran like a sissy. My husband found him and showed me that he was a ‘fake’ rattlesnake. He didn’t have rattles, he made the sound with his mouth.
I always remember that when I see leaves like that! I do like leaves tho, and I will pick them up if people put them at the curb in bags. And a lot of people do throw them away!
